What’s a member?
A member of the Community Built Association plays an active role in shaping collaborative, community-driven projects that integrate art, architecture, and social engagement. Members contribute their skills in design, education, and hands-on construction to help bring public spaces to life with the input and participation of local communities. In return, members gain access to a vibrant network of like-minded professionals, opportunities for continuing education, resources for project development, and invitations to national gatherings and workshops. The association fosters learning, connection, and shared growth, offering a platform to exchange ideas, celebrate successes, and inspire future community-based initiatives across disciplines.
Alley Art Festival
Alley Art Festival was created to reinvent urban spaces with art and is part of an ongoing effort to enhance walkability between the Historic 4th and the Historic Pearl districts in Sioux City, IA.
Alley Art Festival is a street art festival that provides local artists with a platform to show their skills by creating murals in downtown Sioux City alleys. The event will fill the alleys between Pierce and Nebraska Streets and Fourth and Sixth Streets in Souix City, Iowa. Organized by Vangarde Arts, the Alley Art Festival reinvents urban spaces with public arts and enhances the walkability between Historic Fourth Street and Historic Pearl Street
Districts. Last year over 2,000 visitors, young and old, filled the festival area and enjoyed live mural painting, a vendor area where you can browse and buy art from local artists and outstanding live music from local and national touring performers! This is your opportunity to be part of this exciting and fun, family friendly event.

A Midsummer’s Mural
Richard Harrison founded the mural company in 1999 and it has since grown to include the work of over a dozen artists. Their work began with private commissions, schools, churches, and nursing homes and has grown into the public art sphere with their South Omaha Mural Project. The project is an initiative to create community murals about the diverse historic immigrant neighborhoods of South Omaha. Each of the ten murals was created with hundreds of community designers and volunteers. Richard and his team are skilled in all varieties of specialty painting and pride themselves in their flexibility and creative design solutions.

Rebecca Harrison is a co-director of A Midsummer’s Mural, a 20 year old Omaha based mural company. She is also a founding member of the South Omaha Mural Project, which has produced ten large scale community murals about different neighborhoods and groups in South Omaha. She has been an arts educator for five years. She taught ceramics, painting, printmaking, preschool art, and open studio classes to students of all ages at the Salvation Army Kroc Center for 3 years. Rebecca specializes in working on mural fabric that can be painted in a classroom or community center and then installed temporarily or permanently inside or out.
