COMMUNITY BUILDERS FROM AROUND THE COUNTRY CONVENE ON THE CALIFORNIA COAST FOR CBA CONFERENCE 2008
The Community Built Association (CBA), a national nonprofit organization of creative professionals who work to transform community spaces, will be gathering again at the Asilomar Conference Center in Monterey, CA, on March 14th-17th, 2008. This bi-annual Conference will bring together CBA members from coast to coast to share professional expertise and experiences, collaborate on workshops, and get inspired. The CBA Conference will feature special presentations and hands-on workshops that further the practice of uniting professionals with volunteers to develop innovative, community projects that reshape the physical environment. Community-built professionals from around the country will converge as presenters and participants to discuss topics such as participatory design, funding community art, storytelling, community gardens, natural playgrounds, and creating gathering spaces. Lectures, workshops, and less formal gatherings will give plenty of opportunity for sharing stories of success and the wisdom of lessons learned. The conference will be based at the historic Asilomar Conference Grounds located along the shoreline of the Monterey Peninsula. Conference openings are limited and early reservations are recommended. Founded in 1989, the Community Built Association is a not-for-profit association of professionals who are involved in all aspects of the community built field. ‘Community- built’ is defined as an interactive and collaborative process that involves local communities and volunteers in the design, organization, and creation of community projects that reshape the physical environment. Community-built projects promote community bonding and foster ownership and pride by uniting communities to collaborate on cooperative projects (such as a park, playground, mural, or sculpture). The CBA welcomes new members of all disciplines.
